Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen

"Ue o Muite Arukō" was a Japanese popular song released in 1961. The singer was Kyu Sakamoto, and the song was released by Toshiba-EMI. Since the release of the song, it received good receptions from other countires, both the East and the West. Many singers and bands even re-record their own covers of the song. Because of the difficulties of pronouncing the original Japanese name, record company from the West changed its name to "Sukiyaki", which was named after a popular Japanese dish, and the name is still in use nowadays. Few days agao, I have introduced you all about Kenny Ball, who was involbed in the British Trad Jazz revolution during the 1950s and 1960s. His version of Sukiyaki was rated No.10 in the UK Pop Chart in 1963. Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen is one of not many bands that managed to make an instrumental song into the pop chart. In 2011, Studio Ghibli released a film - From Up On Poppy Hill, direted by Gorō Miyazaki. The Japanese original version of this song was selected as part of the soundtrack. The film has its theatrical release today in the UK, and sadly, Mr Kenny Ball passed away early this year in March at the age of 83.

My mission today is to write a film review for a magazine, and that's why I would like to share this song. I hope the music will help me to recall some film sequences; at the same time, I shall also salute to Mr Kenny Ball.
